Writing Hell 6.1

First day of Writing Hell, and I plan to get that 5k written on top of the 2k for a different project!

The Reborn
Starting word count: 2782
Ending word count: 6487

Yeah, already gotta catch up, but I shall manage to reach at least 20k for The Reborn this week!

Excerpt:

The boy stared at me. He stood a step lower than me and was still taller than me. I looked up into his eyes. There was annoyance in those eyes, and something else. Something I couldn’t quite figure out. Not until he spoke.

“What are you really doing here?” he asked. He leaned against the wall a few feet away from me.

I glanced toward the person he had been talking to. The guy smile and, ever so slowly, held up his hand to flip me off. I let out a short laugh; it was far louder than I expected, even startling a few people around the school entrance.

“Your friend over there is very friendly,” I said, turning my attention back to him. “And I’m here because the Abbess wants me to be here.” I paused for a moment and hopped off the stone. He towered even higher as I stepped up to him. “Why does it matter to you?”

His upper lip twitched, his face having gone feral. “Your kind doesn’t belong here.”

“Ha. And what exactly is my kind?” I asked, tilting my head up. Our faces were inches from each other.

Hope you guys are doing well with Writing Hell!  Or Camp NaNoWriMo, for those who're doing that.  At least I'm staying on task on that.

Camp NaNo and Writing Hell!

So, tomorrow not only starts the monthly Writing Hell hosted here, but also Camp NaNoWriMo.

But, I shall first say this: as of today, I have finished another year of high school and am now on summer break! Only one more night of driver's ed, then my first behind the wheel, and I get to write all day.

Tomorrow, I will begin my work on completing Sever.  I'll be starting Camp NaNo at 20033 words, and will hopefully be adding another 60k (the 60k will be for NaNo, not the 20k I'm starting with).  I'll also have 10k for The Girl of Eternal Fire, but that isn't as important.

And for Writing Hell, I don't know whether or not I want to include Sever, or the The Reborn idea.  This month, it'll be for ten days, and I plan to write 5k per day.  The Reborn will most likely be the choice then.

Lot's of writing for me this month!  I hope to get to editing Rush, Nightland, or Sever (if plan goes well) in July. I hope more of you guys join in on either Camp NaNo, or Writing Hell!

Well, I think that's all for today.  Go get some writing done!

Writing Hell 5.10

Yeah, so I kind of failed at Writing Hell, but I did write over a total of 8900 words for Sever.  Next month will be better, because I'll be on break.  Maybe I can even write 50k in 10 days...  Last summer I wrote Rush in about 2-3 weeks, and that was averaging at least 2-3k a day or more.

I hope I can get more participants next month.  I would love to see how people do with these sorts of goals, and what they get written, too.

So, until the next Writing Hell, I hope you guys get all sorts of writing done!

Writing Hell 5.7

Welcome to day 7! Hope you guys are reaching your goals.

Today, I have driver's ed. Not really looking forward to that, but I do plan to get some writing done during the videos, since that seems to take up a lot of the time.  Otherwise, I won't be getting a whole lot written today, either.

No excerpt today...

Writing Hell 5.6

Day 6! I still need to catch up, so ... yeah. When I'm finally on task, I'll let you guys know! Today also comes with a new idea, which is why my word count has not changed... But I shall save this idea for a month or so to see if I'll have anything finished by then.  And that's a maybe.

Sever
Starting word count: 12377
Ending word count: 12694

Now to get on task...

Writing Hell 5.5

Welcome to day 5!  Good news for me today: I may get my mom's car in about 6 months (when I start driving).  I think it's more likely than not.  So happy.  But, then I have to catch up on my word counts, so ... yeah, not so fun.  The same goes for driver's ed.

Sever
Starting word count: 11560
Ending word count: 12377

Excerpt:
“If I could send people with you, I would, but we don’t need to risk people noticing travelers from Vita. They don’t really like us,” he says. He takes a step back and smiles down at me. “Be careful, Sora. I’m expecting to be able to speak with you when you return.” He ruffles my hair, then takes a step back. “Good luck, and good night.”

With a nod, he takes a few backward steps, then turns and disappears into the forest. It only takes a few feet before he fully disappeared. Leaving me here, in the middle of the forest, to follow the rest of the path into the town.

I take a deep breath and plunge into the darkness, hoping the faint moonlight that appears every few feet will stay long enough for me to emerge in town safely.
Yeah, I'm not doing so good at catching up...

Writing Hell 5.4

Welcome to day 4 of Writing Hell!  After all the writing I've done (and need catch up on), it feels like it should be the end of Writing Hell.  Maybe that's because it's Friday...  Anyhow, I hope you guys are getting those words down!  I feel rather proud at finally getting Sever into the 10000 right now (word count wise).

Sever
Starting word count: 10019
Ending word count: 11560

I'm doing kind of bad at catching up, but I shall keep trying until I do!  (If that even happens.)

Well, I hope those who are participating in Writing Hell are doing well (and should totally let me know how they're doing via comments).

Writing Hell 5.3

Welcome to day 3 of Writing Hell!  Today I needed to catch up, having only written around 900 words yesterday.  So, I actually wrote in my notebook today.  It was rather help, and nice not to have a gazillion and four people ask me what I'm doing.

Sever
Starting word count: 7589
Ending word count: 10019

No preview today because I'm still behind and kinda dead right now.  Hope you guys are doing better than I am!

Writing Hell 5.1

Welcome to the first day of Writing Hell!  I hope you all have gotten to writing, and have at least finished today's goal!  For the next few days, I hope to write 25k for my project Sever.  That means 2500 words per day for me.  (It's a good thing I don't get any homework!)

Sever
Starting word count: 4406
Ending word count:  6907

After I got home and started writing, it was, oh, around 4:30 I think.  And then I wrote.  Up until almost 10pm.  It took me that long to get 2500 words out, but I did it, and boy am I proud!  I just need to not get distracted by texting and Bubble Shooter and food and Pokemon (yes, I am now playing Pokemon on my Gameboy).  So, this is the first ever day that I successfully completed Writing Hell.

Excerpt:
I tense, and Brodrick pulls back. Squeezing my eyes shut, I calm myself down. It’s true, the fact that they left me was harsh enough, but with what Roth did… “Yes. They’re family. No matter what, I want them back.” I keep my eyes shut and lean against Brodrick’s solid form. “Wouldn’t you do the same thing?”

“I don’t know what I would do, even if I imagined it a thousand ways. It doesn’t mean it’ll happen that way,” he says, his voice calm and steady.

So, if you participated and posted for Writing Hell, please leave a comment!  I'd love to check out everyone's achievements of today.

Writing Hell: Get Ready!

Tomorrow starts Writing Hell: a monthly event hosted here.  To be truthful, I have yet to successfully finish Writing Hell, considering the event at the beginning of the year that severely impacted my writing.  I was in a rut for months.

But now that I'm reading and writing regularly (more so than before), I thought I plan on succeeding in this Writing Hell!

If you'd like to participate, just let me know in a comment.  More info on Writing Hell is provided in the tab above, but if you're lazy (like me) and don't feel like checking it out, just look below.

Your Writing Hell post should consist of...

  • Title of project
  • List your goal for the 5-10 days
  • Starting word count
  • Ending word count
  • Retelling of your struggle day, and any inspiration (if you want to reveal)
  • (optional) Two paragraphs of your writing (or more, if you want)

This month's Writing Hell will last for 10 days.  I'd like it if you at least linked me to your blog and/or post of the first day of Writing Hell.  I'll make sure to include participants in every day's post.

And something new: If you post an excerpt, let me know if you'd like me to critique your work.

Link away, my friends!

This week...

This week will be quite ... interesting.  Tomorrow starts Writing Hell, which means I need to aim for 2500 words for the next ten days.

On Wednesday, I start Driver's Ed. From 6-something to 8:15 PM.  Yay me. #sarcasm

And on Thursday, I've got a spring concert at school.  The band goes on first, so I'm hoping that means I can leave earlier.  Unless I feel like watching the orchestra + mariachi later.  Which means I won't get home until, oh, 9-ish.

And, for the month of May, I have to work on this project for Algebra II.  What do I get to do?  Make a Ferris Wheel.  In one month.  While taking Driver's Ed, which will cut my open dates nearly in half.

Oh what fun this month brings for me.  The bright side: starting the second week of the month, we have 2-hour early releases on every Friday.  And then there's finals, and then NO SCHOOL.  Which means NO SUMMER SCHOOL for me and more time to write.

I just have to survive one more month and hopefully not cry during graduation, either because I know some of the seniors, or because I'll be thinking about how sad my graduation will be, or because I'll be thinking about my currently-junior friends' graduation.  ... I think I'm doomed to cry.

So, if I wind up not posting for a week, you now know why.

P.S. Another sad thing: On Saturdays, I have to miss Legend of Korra.  Good thing I'm recording the series.

Writing Hell 3.3

Well, yesterday I didn't write, so I believe that means there shouldn't be a post.

And today ... today, I have three ideas I think I'll work on.  And Enigma, of course, but we all know that that won't happen.

So, either I will plan a total of 3k, or actually get to writing...

Writing Hell 3.1

Happy March! The month of green, I think (because it is the color that I think of when I think March).

After a month without this, let's get back to work! Writing Hell, March first, 2012.  This time, I plan on posting every day.  I've gotten really bad.

So, this Writing Hell will last for 5 days.  In those 5 days, I plan to write a total of 15k. 3k a day.  I plan on not dying, even though I do have a research project to start writing too.

Excerpt from ENIGMA:

Ending word count: (expected) 6952

Quick little pop in.

I'm still not completely back, but I might be.  My friend who has been in the hospital for a month should be going home tomorrow, or a tad bit later, meaning I can bring my laptop and have wi-fi when I go visit.

Which means I should get some more writing done, especially when I completely forgot about Writing Hell this month. I think I'll start that this Friday, so we Americans have a three day weekend to get some writing done.

Reading-wise, I've read two books, and am reading five, I believe.
Writing-wise, well, that's not a whole lot. I've come up with two new dystopian ideas, and am rewriting Smolder, which is now titled Paradox.

And I hope to get back into the blogging swing soon.

Until this Thursday/Friday, I'm retreating back into my little Hell Hole that is my new social life.

Writing Hell 1.2

Because I didn't write the whole 5k yesterday, I aim to write 6.1k to get back on task. I should be at 11k in OBLIVION by the end of the day.

I wish everyone good luck!

Writing Hell 1.1 2012

Because this is 2012, we will count this as week one, day one of Writing Hell.

Today, I started writing at midnight. Nice way to start the new year: already writing! A few days ago, I started writing what I'm calling OBLIVION. I hope to finish this within a few months, along with SMOLDER (because I'm horrible with sticking to a single project).

Excerpt from OBLIVION:

Quickly, I think of something to say, hoping it will redeem me. “But those people are rewarded with the fact that they helped someone else,” I cry. From the glare he gives me, I’m not saying what he wants to hear. “I mean, shouldn’t the evil people receive more attention because of their actions?” My voice grows weaker as I continue speak.

In all honesty, I’ve never paid attention to do-gooders. It isn’t like most good deeds change people’s lives dramatically, unlike how every little crime committed leaves a mark on the victim’s soul.

“You still have a lot to learn. Now go home, Dice,” he says, and then turns to leave.

I refuse to leave this building now, not when I should be a Keeper already. “But I deserve—”

Before I can finish, he turns. His red eyes flash and his hand comes up, striking my face. My cheek stings, tears well up, but I just stand there, staring up at him. All emotions have disappeared from his eyes, making them the fiery pits that they truly are.

“Go home,” he repeats, his voice softer now.

Starting word count: 1061
Ending word count: 4935 (So close, yet so far! I just have to write a little over six thousand words tomorrow.)

I wish everyone at SPG-United to Write good luck on their writing goals!

Writing Hell Preparations?

As we grow closer to the new year, another Writing Hell will commence. How much you want to write every day is optional, but please try to stick the amount of days for that month (5 for January).

I think I might start calling this a meme, but I'm not certain.

If you are participating in Writing Hell, I'd love to at least be able to visit your blog (if you have one). Just leave the link in the comments.

The layout for your posts should be something like this:

Excerpt for whatever project you're doing

Starting count: (insert word count started with)
Ending count: (insert word count ended with for that day)

And I think that's simple enough. Why not start off the New Year with a little challenge? I already know that it'll help out with my New Year's Resolution.

So, if you're participating, post your blog's link in the comments!

Dec 6, 2011

Woohoo! I'm an epic failure!

As you know, I should be nearing 50,000 words tomorrow in Smolder. So let's say that I'm really past 18,000 words right now.

Yeah, real big difference there. For the majority of the weekend, I was watching Yu Yu Hakusho. And I'll end up watching Sailor Moon and Rurouni Kenshin in the upcoming weeks. Anime seems like really like me during the winter; last year, my friend got me to watch almost all of the DeathNote series. But ... yeah, I didn't finish it.

Let's see if I can get this writing done! On Thursday, I have community service because of my history class. On Friday, I have to play for the football game, because we've made it to championships for the first time in the history of my school. And we're undefeated. So, I must suffer in 30 degree weather (I'm a Californian used to 90-100 degree weather, of course I'm going to die!) and then thaw out at home that night.

At least I don't have homework. Not with finals coming up. I just need to pull up my history grade a little to maintain straight A's. (Yeah, I'm a nerd, too.)

So, those of you who're participating in Writing Hell: Are you failing as badly as I am, or have you stayed on track?

Writing Hell 1.2

Week one, day two.

Today, I need to catch up. So I'm making this post quick.

Starting word count: 15535
Ending word count: 16189

I give up. Pulling my attention from the road, I ask, “Papa, why are we going to Moscow?”
Papa glances back at me through the rearview mirror. “There’s a lot of history in the city. I thought it might help explain some things. You can do some research.” He pauses, fingers tapping the steering wheel. “Meet up with some people, hopefully.”
“People? Like who?”
He doesn’t answer, peeving me. I fold my arms over my chest, dip my chin down, and glare at Mama’s seat. Levin’s hand rattles my knee. I look up into a smiling face as he scoots over, now sitting right beside me.
“Do you know what he’s talking about?” I ask, peering up at Levin.
His lips form a tight line. He taps his right picky finger, the joint bouncing on my knee. Finally, he says, “I might have an idea, but I’m not certain. There are many things to do in Moscow.” He laughs. “I could teach you a lot, if Marco doesn’t plan on it.”
I'll post an excerpt in a little bit. In the mean time, leave a link in the comments of your Writing Hells, guys! I'd love to read your works.

Writing Hell 1.1

First day of the first week of Writing Hell.

How many of you have met your 2.5-5k goal yet? I for sure haven't! I've been at school, reading and doing school like things. And tonight, I can't write much, because I have a wonderful Christmas Parade to march in. Oh the joys of being in my high school's marching band.

So, Writing Hell participants, here's how posts will go (I meant to do this yesterday, but Yu Yu Hakusho distracted me):

Make a post for your first day of Writing Hell. It will contain your starting word count (example: Starting word count: 100) and beneath that, your ending word count (at the end of the day, or the next day, fill it in; follow previous example) and then you could post an excerpt. I will most likely be doing this tomorrow, and will be catching up on my 5k goal over the weekend.

For now, I will post the summary, as I don't have a whole lot of time to get stuff done.

Starting word count: 15535
Ending word count: 15535

And the summary:

Having to actually save something is the last thing on Milo’s mind. Being a demigod is a close second. Yet now she’s forced to take on these two foreign paths in hopes of keeping some sort of world order. But Milo couldn’t care less about things that don’t involve her.

Levin refuses to let her go down the wrong path. As her Guardian, he guides her as best he can. He’s able to solve many of her mistakes, until she upsets Them—the ones who granted mortals the chances for immortality in the first places. Milo should listen to them no matter what, unless she wants to lose the powers that come with being a demigod.

When it comes to change, Milo’s chances of staying a demigod smolder to dust.

I hope to near completion for Smolder by the end of these ten days.

So, how's your Writing Hell going? If you're participating, feel free to leave a comment with your day's excerpt. I'd love to check it out!
